EPMD's Parish Smith Gets Close With the Prodigy In the "Business Mentality" Solo LP

#DXCLUSIVE: The Hip-Hop legend opens up about the loss of the quotes mobb Deep MC and that's like working on a solo album.

EPMD's Parish Smith PMD of legendary New York Hip-Hop duo -- is currently in The Art Of Rap Tour with his EPMD brothers, Erick Sermon, Rakim, Slick Rick, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.

For nearly five months, quotes mobb Deep MC Prodigy passed away at the age of 42 after a performance at the tour's stop in Las Vegas. EPMD was not in that bill and missing the show is something that lingers in the PMD.

In the Hip-Hop fixture recent solo album, Mindset, Business, PMD has an opportunity to make peace with the fact of not saying goodbye on the aptly titled track "Wonder Tribute."

"I did the 'Prodigy Tribute' song for Prodigy to have a conversation with P and pay respect to him for his great contribution to Hip Hop," PMD says to HipHopDX. "At any time EPMD and quotes mobb Deep would have a show together, P and I went to chop for a minute and catch up the next time we were in the same program. EPMD and quotes mobb Deep were in The Art Of Rap Tour in 2016. In June 2017, quotes mobb Deep, was on The Art Of Rap show in Las Vegas, but EPMD was not in The Art Of Rap Las Vegas show this year, so we didn't have a chance to catch up with Prodigy. I felt that I had to have this conversation with Prodigy."

EPMD has pumped out a series of landmark albums, from 1988 is Strictly Business. The album produced the hit "You Gots To chill" and solidified her place in the history of Hip Hop.

There have been countless breakups and makeups over the years. More recently, DJ Scratch, who had been the turntablist for the group since the end of the decade of the '80, split. Despite his absence, the E Double and the PMD have been conducted on the EPMD legacy. In fact, the Sermon appears in the PMD of the new effort on the track "Real Gone."

For the PMD's solo album, a Business Mindset, he has stated that the process was a little different from doing a EPMD record.
