Fired MPD Officer Derek Chauvin Arrested For George Floyd Killing

The three other officers involved in the incident remain free.

Minneapolis, MN – White Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been arrested for the murder of 46-year-old black man, George Floyd, according to the CBSN Minnesota.

Although it is not clear what charges Chauvin face, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman has scheduled a press conference at 1 pm CST on a "major development" in the case.

Floyd was pronounced dead at the Hennepin County Medical Center, on Monday (25 May) soon after Chauvin had his knee on his neck for about four minutes as Floyd had trouble breathing on the ground.

In a viral video of the incident, Floyd's repeatedly shouts, "I can't breathe!" as spectators beg Chauvin to stop. In the wake of his death, the protests and riots have erupted throughout the country.

There is no word currently on how the three other officers involved in the incident will be handled.
