Lil Wayne Applauds White of the police That Saved His Life During 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards Speech

Weezy was 2018's I Am Hip Hop award.

Miami Beach, FL – Lil Wayne was this year's winner of the BET I Am Hip Hop award during the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards. As part of his acceptance speech, Lil Tunechi recalled the day a white cop who he calls Uncle Bob saved his life.

I was 12 years old when he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an apartment in New Orleans. As people rushed to exit the building, Uncle Bob made sure to get young Weezy help. When EMS refused to take him to the ambulance, Uncle Bob took the matter into their own hands.

"There is a man in New Orleans," Wayne said. "His name is Uncle Bob. Went into an apartment one day, he broke in the door, weapons in hand. He saw no one. Saw the legs on the floor. It was my legs. He saw the blood everywhere. A group of police jumped on me, he refused to do so.

"I never knew that — I talked to him the other day — I didn't know EMS was on the scene. He said: EMS tried two times and they said that there is nothing. He refused to let die. Forget an ambulance took him to the hospital himself. He refused to wait, kicked in the door and said do what you have to do for this child to do. Not only that, that day Uncle Bob was a homicide detective. He was in the detail. He only heard the call and came. Not only refuse to sit down ... which he refused to leave. He stayed and ensured that I have done."

Of course, Wayne has told this story before. In fact, once used it to explain why I don't believe in racism.

"Yes, he was a cop, and my life was saved by a white man," he said in a 2016 interview with The Associated Press. "I don't know what racism is. I know a good black called Uncle Bob, though. He was white as snow. Them niggas that jumped on me were more me. [He] was there and waited until the doctor said, "He's goi
