Michelle Williams Recalls Suicide During Destiny's Child, the First
The singer hopes to add normalcy to the mental health discussion.
Studio City, CA – Former Destiny's Child singer Michelle Williams discussed the mental health and depression during an appearance on The Talk earlier this week. Williams was taking on co-hosting duties for the Wednesday (October 18) episode.
Despite being A member of one of the biggest girl groups in the world, Williams revealed that she struggled with depression during his term as a member of the group. The lead singer even recalled being in a dark place that I was periodically suicidal.
"It was really really bad ... to the point that I was suicidal," said Williams. "I was in the place where it was so dark and heavy, because sometimes you feel like, 'I am the provider, I take care of the people, I should not be feeling this way what can I do?' I wanted it to be."
He recalled approaching Matthew Knowles — Destiny's Child manager and Beyonce's father about his depression, but it was ruled out.
"I think he [Matthew Knowles] I wanted to be grateful, which I was, but I was still sad," he said. "I want to normalize the mental health discussion ... so many people are walking around acting like you have it all together".
