Oscar 2018: Mary J. Blige, Daniel Kaluuya And Jordan Peele Among The Nominees

And yes, Kobe Bryant.

Los Angeles, CA – Mary J. Blige, Jordan Peele, Daniel Kaluuya and Kobe Bryant are among the nominees for the Oscars this year in the 90's of the Academy Awards. The nominees were released on Tuesday morning (January 23).

Blige is nominated for two awards, including Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in Dee Rees' period drama, Mudbound. Blige's contribution to the soundtrack, Mighty River, is also recognized in the Best Music (Original Song) category.

Peele's record-breaking directorial debut, Exit, is nominated four times for Best film, Best Actor (Daniel Kaluuya), best direction and best Writing (Original Screenplay).

Peele, who becomes just the fifth African-American man to be nominated for Best Director, faces competition from Greta Gerwig, who only becomes the fifth woman to be nominated in the category of your coming-of-age comedy-drama, Lady Bird.

Peele took to Twitter shortly after the nominations were announced to react to the news.

Kobe Bryant, along with director Glen Keane, is also nominated for the loved Ones of Basketball, a six-minute short film written and narrated by former Los Angeles Lakers point guard. The couple will compete in the short film (Animation) category.

The 90 Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the second time, the air, the 4 of March.
