Get to know Chicago rapper and "The Wire" alum M a E S T R O, which will be held in DX's SXSW showcase.
Southside Chicago rapper M E S T R O is no novice when it comes to the entertainment industry. With over two decades of experience in the business, the 26-year-old has made a buzz in almost all of his artistic endeavors. Has of acting from the credits of series such as The Wire (where he played Randy), Cold Case, and more recently, the Comedy Central show Drunk History, where he played Louis Armstrong.
But he was not in the music industry as a rapper. He has previous experience with the creation of EDM music club hits "For You" with Dzeko & Torres, who has more than 5 million Spotify streams. With the production of one of his many talents, he created "Groovy" to the Famous Dex and Dice Soho, and even played piano on rap legend Nas' song "Life is Good."
In 2017, M a E S T R O's creative talent led him to the world of rap when he released his singles "One" and "Woke up."
His next mixtape debut, Wav God, will be released this year.
HipHopDX spoke with the M a E S T R O before he hits our Rap Rise showcase on the SXSW stage this year.
HipHopDX: Have you performed at SXSW before?
First time performing at SXSW. Excited and appreciate HipHopDX for the opportunity.
What are you most excited about performing at the festival?
I am all excited to see how the crowd reacts to the new music that also connects with other artists that I might not have had the opportunity to connect with if it weren't for SXSW.
Do you plan on watching other performances?
Def want to check out Friend, J. I. D, the homie Kodie Shane, Madeintyo, Maxo Kream, Smokepurpp just to name a few. But also to keep my eyes open to discover any new artist out there too.
What has been the best and/or worst part of the preparation for the presentations?
I would say just make sure you get the flow of the sample to the right is the most important. The achievement of new records for people who might not be familiar, however, is not always eas
