The-P To Compose The Score For Al Capone Biopic "Fonzo"
The film will star Tom Hardy and Matt Dillon.
El-P — the half of Run The Jewels — has signed on to compose an original soundtrack for the upcoming Al Capone biopic, Fonzo. Directed by Josh Trank, the film stars Academy Award nominee Tom Hardy, Linda Cardellini, Jack Lowden, Academy Award nominee Matt Dillon and the Golden Globe winner Kyle MacLachlan.
As the title suggests, the story revolves around the infamous Chicago gangster whose violent past begins to catch up with him after a decade in jail. The dementia begins to grab and Capone is haunted by the life he led before prison.
For Trank — whose previous directorial efforts include the Chronicle and the Fantastic Four — have The-P to help bring the story to life is a dream come true.
"Since I was fourteen years of age, El-P music has been one of the most important creative influences in my life," 34-year-old, director, said in a press release. "No, literally, there is no greater honor for me to collaborate with him in the present and in the testimony of this new stage of his artistic journey."
The-P, which has just completed a tour in support of pop star Lorde, won a nomination at the Grammy awards last year for the Baby Controller to the soundtrack of the runway, "Chase Me." Meanwhile, Run The Jewels' "Legend" was presented at the Black Panther advertising campaign.
He also composed the music of Blade Runner 2049 but ended up going unused.
"I am excited to be a part of this movie," El-P said in a press release. "I'm a big fan of all involved."
