Washington, DC – a Pioneering comedian and civil rights activist Dick Gregory has died at the age of 84 years. His son, Christian Gregory, posted the news to his father, a Facebook account on Saturday evening (August 19). Although details are scarce, at the beginning of this week, the elder Gregory had been hospitalized in Washington, DC, which is where his journey on earth ended. The cause of death was reportedly heart failure.

"With huge sadness that the de Gregorio family confirms that his father, the legend of the comedy and civil rights activist, Mr. Dick Gregory departed this world this evening in Washington, DC," Christian wrote. "The family appreciates the outpouring of support and love, and respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time. More details will be revealed in the coming days."

On Thursday (August 17), his family was optimistic that we were going home. Christian took to Instagram to offer a clearer view of the situation and ask for "healing".

"In the old age a simple cold or a simple infection could be catastrophic," the caption read. "At the time of be chronologically 85, the father of my true age by far. A life well-lived, but heavily sacrificed, it has definitely taken its toll. Laughter is really good medicine. I have seen my father for the whole life to heal the world. Today it is the need of your healing."

My father, Dick Gregory, remains in the hospital with a serious but stable medical condition. His prognosis is excellent and should be released in the next few days. After feeling ill last Wednesday (August 9) Mr. Gregory was taken to the hospital. He was evaluated, treated and released. Showing only a minimal improvement we went to the hospital on Saturday (August 12) was evaluated and admitted. The balance of a very fine line between privacy and the privacy of their friends and fans (who are his family) the right to know. We have and always gladly and freely share this gift
