John Singleton Defends R. Kelly: "He Just Has A Lot Of Girlfriends"
"I don't see what the controversy is," Singleton said.
Boyz N The Hood director John Singleton has come out in defense of R. Kelly after a Buzzfeed report that Kelly was running a "sex cult".
Asked by a reporter from TMZ if the recent scandal surrounding R. Kelly "make a good movie some day," Singleton said: "no, he is Not misunderstood. He just has a lot of friends. A lot of people have a lot of girlfriends."
When faced with the argument that many people are calling Kelly a "predator" Singleton said, "The woman that you are with are adult women and they took the decision to be with him. They know what they are getting, so I don't see what the controversy."
He asked if I was going to compare R. Kelly and Bill Cosby, who also faces accusations of sexual misconduct, Singleton replied: "No, no, not at all, that's a whole different situation."
The explosive Buzzfeed report came after claims were made by the parents of one of the girls that R. Kelly allegedly is keeping. Other partners, Kelly stated that "six women who live in properties rented by Kelly in Chicago and the suburbs of Atlanta, and he controls every aspect of their lives: the dictation of what they eat, how to dress, when to bathe, when they sleep, and how they can participate in the sexual encounters he records."
The woman whose father made the allegations, which addressed the issue publicly, explaining that she was happy where he was.
A lawyer of R. Kelly vehemently denied the allegations, saying, "we can only wonder why people would persist in slandering a great artist who loves his fans."
