MadeinTYO Says The Meeting Of Pharrell Exceeded Their Expectations
Los Angeles, CA – MadeinTYO (pronounced Done In Tokyo) has been slightly enigmatic since their break up single, "Uber everywhere," went viral in 2016, a track of your 2015 Are Forgiven mixtape. After a remix of "Uber everywhere", with Travis Scott, TYO's status in the rap community began to grow, but did little to shed light on who TYO actually was.
After August 2016, re-launch, You Are Forgiven peaked at #122 on the Billboard 200 and details about the 25-year old Los Angeles transplant slowly started to arise.
Born Malcolm Jamaal Davis, the former military brat took his name from his experience of life in Japan as a teenager. He is the brother of the rapper of 24 hours, and was very influenced by artists such as Gucci Mane, M. I. A. and Pharrell Williams.
As opportunities continued to develop, TYO had the opportunity to work with some of his musical heroes, including Pharrell. In March, TYO published a now-deleted Instagram photo of him working with the "happiness" of the singer in the studio with a caption that read, "Working on my album. Thanks to all my fans, I am very grateful with you. The tour starts next week, see you soon!"
TYO admits that he was relieved the N. E. R. D. brain exceeded their expectations when they finally met Pharrell for the first time.
"Pharrell is the drug and people know that," TYO says HipHopDX. "So it's like, the encounter with him, that he did not do wrong. It was without a doubt one of those, 'Thank god you are not the opposite of what I thought were moments. As Pharrell is, without a doubt, a real one. We had a good conversation."
He adds, "put yourself out there and to really get that love is, I think, the ultimate goal at the end of the day."
