The Wu-Tang Clan vet also explains how Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole provide balance to the culture.

New York, NY – Wu-Tang Clan Masta Killa, RZA, and DJ/producer Mathematics recently stopped by Hot 97 to discuss the pioneering New York Hip-Hop collective from the upcoming album of Wu-Tang: The Saga Continues.

On the 11th minute of the interview, as the trio was talking about Hip-Hop as a business, RZA dealt a handful of gems about what MCs can do to become a voice reverberating in the culture.

"I would advise any MC that is coming as a MC, or as you call it, is a rapper, definitely strive for powerful bars, big letters," RZA said. "Because even a singer aspires to be a better singer, a guitarist strives to become a better guitarist, you know what I mean? I think that it is important for their longevity and for them to recognize in a moment in life — whether it's Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan, Nat King Cole, to the extent that we can return — sometimes the artist's voice becomes the voice of the time, then the voice of the world. It is important that you recognize that you are making the soundtrack of our generation."

As he continued, he touched on Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole features on the Hip Hop landscape, explaining the way in which the balance of the culture of the needs. He uses the Future of the "Mask" and his reference to the powerful painkiller Percocet to make his point.

"It ['Mask'] not to give a description of everything that happens," he says. "But now Kendrick is come, which I think is an MC that keeps the balance for us, and I think J. Cole keeps the balance and I love the Future, trust me. Put in the Future, you could jump in and start dancing with you. I'm on it, but there has to be a balance, and I think that the MCs are not that put the focus on what should be considered always, and go back and study the greats, so you can add that. I mean, we're going to see Drake only become more and more. We see this happening, even Kendrick. Look at follow to become a better MC because he cared about be that."
